Have you ever walked into a store and felt completely out-of-place, overwhelmed, and like everyone was looking at you wondering what you could possibly be doing there? And have you ever walked into a store and felt nothing but good vibes, like you were in the right place, and a complete sense of calm washed over you? Two very different feelings sure, but I definitely felt both at the exact same time when I walked into my next place off the ole LA List: Amoeba Records on Sunset Blvd.
Y’all I love music (who doesn’t?!?). And similar to my obsession with bookstores, my obsession with music stores is massive. Basically any store where I can get quietly lost for hours is my favorite place ever (and all the introverts said AMEN!) There’s just something about wandering around in a place that holds so many good things, both new and old, that brings you so much simple joy, that frankly is just the BEST. And Amoeba Records is no different.
Amoeba Records is an independent music chain with locations in Berkeley (since 1990), San Francisco (since 1997) and LA (since 2001). The store in Los Angeles is right smack in the middle of downtown Hollywood and can’t be missed! Literally, it takes up an entire city block… makes it pretty hard to miss 😉 This 2-story music hub also just happens to be the world’s largest independent music store (see pictures below if you don’t believe me). It is impressive to say the least. There is enough music, movies, video games, posters, and pop culture paraphernalia for everyone under the sun. Plus the staff is crazy knowledgeable and helpful. Oh yeah, did I mention the STACKS and STACKS and STACKS of $1 records, CDs and DVDs available all over the store?! What’s not to love??
^^^can we talk about how gorgeous she is, and more importantly, how INCREDIBLE her new album sounds?! ^^^Wham’s my jam. Don’t judge!
^^^someone puh. lease. get me that lunchbox ^^^I stood here an embarrassingly long time to get this photo without people’s terrified faces when the elevator doors opened and I was standing right in front of them with my camera…
See what I mean?! This place is HUGE, and glorious, and happy, and intimidating, and awesome, and lively, and special, and a million other things. I can’t wait to go back again and again, and hopefully catch one of their free live concerts!!
