So after a pit stop at The Saguaro and an incredible time exploring Salvation Mountain, we ended the day with a picnic on the shore of the most beautiful place I think I have ever seen: The Salton Sea.
The Salton Sea is MASSIVE. After driving through the middle of the desert we turned right and out of nowhere there was the most beautiful, still water stretching as far as the eye could see. It was a miracle we didn’t get in a wreck because I could barely keep my eyes off it. It took us about 45 minutes to drive around one side of it. I’ll say it again, 45 MINUTES. ONE SIDE. WITH NO TRAFFIC. Honestly we didn’t even make it to the end of the sea because we turned to go to Salvation Mountain. That’s how gigantically vast this place is.
After Salvation Mountain we drove along the “coast” looking for a good place to picnic. When we finally found one, we opened our doors to the strongest saltiest sent my nose has ever smelled and took it all in. I did not want to look away for a second because I thought I was dreaming and in a moment it would all be gone.
Y’all I saw more colors in this sunset then I’ve ever seen in my life. I still dream about this place and I wish we could have spent more time there. Maybe next time we will drive all the way around the Sea!!!
You know you picked the best spot to watch the sunset when several professional photographers show up…
I meannnnnnn come on!!! Would you believe me if I said pictures can’t do it justice??
