The One At The Melrose Trading Post

03-11-2016

Melrose Trading Post flea marketY’all it’s almost the weekend!!! Hasn’t this week been the longest?! One of my favorite things to do on the weekend is hit up a flea or farmers market. True, I probably shouldn’t go as often as I do because I really don’t have the money or space for anything else 😉 But I can’t help it!! I get so so inspired at flea markets! By far, my favorite flea I’ve been to since I moved out here is the Rosebowl flea (I’m sure there will be a post on this in the future) it is MASSIVE and kinda on the overwhelming side. But I always find something and leave thinking, “I could have a booth here!!!!!” LOL in your dreams Katie. But sadly (though probably best for my bank account) the Rosebowl flea only comes around once a month. So where do I go in the meantime?! Oh just this little ole amazing flea market that’s next up on the LA List: The Melrose Trading Post.

I love this place. It’s fairly easy to get to (very central to most places in LA) and I’ve always found street parking, though they do have a paid parking lot if the streets are full. It does cost $3 to get in the flea, but honestly that’s the cheapest price I’ve seen to get into a quality flea market, plus if you find free street parking it’s all good! This flea takes place in a high school parking lot and has a YUMMY food court area! There is a good variety of vendors with everything from records, jean shorts, frames, vintage, clothes, furniture and unique knickknacks.

I love love love flea markets. I love finding something that not everyone else has, though I have definitely fallen victim to the Ikea and Target price-tags more than a few times 😉 But honestly there’s nothing quite like sorting through all the crazy piles of anything and everything to find the most perfect thing for your home. At this particular flea I have scored a huge rug for my bedroom haggled down to $30 (!!!!!!), fun stools for our backyard, a vintage coca-cola lamp, some great records, and a bar cart I got for $20! A few months ago my roommate even found the cutest distressed dresser for her room!

I am by no means a professional flea marketer (is that even a thing?! Cause it should be) but I have gathered a few tips and tricks along the way. I’ve been thinking of starting a “tips & tricks” tab under the DIY/Decor section of this blog ranging from tips to scoring at flea markets and tricks to decorating for parties or everyday! Maybe that’ll be my weekend project 🙂 Thoughts??
