The One With Sea Lions, A Gum Wall And All Things Pink

Today I am excited to share part 2 of my bestie road trip with y’all!! Like I previously mentioned, the goal of this day trip was to make it The Madonna Inn for a late lunch, while stopping to see as many random/fun things we could along the way. First stop was the wonderfully charming town of Solvang CA. Then we ventured to the one and only Luffa farm!!! Next we made it to our destination for some delicious lunch, drove a few minutes down the road to see the gum wall, and then rounded out the trip at the Port San Luis Pier and made some new friends 😉

Stop 3 – The Madonna Inn

Y’all this place has been on my bucketlist pretty much from the moment I crossed over the California state line. It was just as charming, eclectic and colorful as I had imagined. Ashley and I enjoyed our lunch but the best part of the meal was definitely the cake. Actually it was a toss-up between the cake and a random kid running in and yelling “It’s like I’m in a Disney movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” 😉 This place really is something else, so everyone in the inn could relate! Everywhere you turn there is something new and interesting to see. Unfortunately because we were just going for lunch, we couldn’t explore the grounds or any of the INCREDIBLE rooms. But no worries, just means I’ll have to book a few days there so I can swim and ride horses and play on their crazy-colorful tennis court 🙂

Stop 4 – Bubblegum Alley

This random alleyway was equal parts fascinating and disgusting. The smell alone will be something I never forget (unfortunately). But a road trip is not complete until you visit at least one weird thing, so this was ours!!

Stop 5 – Port San Luis Pier

Our final stop on the day trip before heading back down the coast (with a pit stop in Santa Barbara for some delicious ice cream at McConnells) was at a random pier about 20 minutes south of Madonna Inn/Bubblegum Alley. We pretty much (accidentally) nailed the timing of this pit stop and arrived just as golden hour started!!! It was perfect. So calm, so ocean-breezy, so magical. This port looks seemingly like it’s the last port in California because you can’t see past the cliff, so it was kinda fun to pretend we were at the furthest point in California, when really we had just reached the furthest point in our road trip haha 😉 But the best part of strolling along this particular pier is alllllllllllllllllllllllllll the wildlife. Sure the fish and seagulls are great, but the main attraction are the HOARDS of sea lions and seals chillin’ underneath the pier. They are loud, playful, and kinda like my spirit animal.
